Full Day Information Workshop for Educators - Working with Children and Youth.

This approximately five hour session covers the following topics:

  - Defining bullying: the difference between bullying and bad play
- Identifying bullying in schools and in community programs
- Common examples of bullying
- Current statistics on bullying
- Types of bullying
- Girl bullies
- Identifying and dealing with bullies and victims
- Building a positive school/community culture
- An overview of effective strategies to reduce bullying
- Implementing an anti-bullying program within the school
- Getting the students involved: building positive student leadership programs and opportunities
- Getting parents involved
- Implementing effective classroom/school based strategies
- Measuring positive successes
- Sustaining the momentum
- Using the video: Take Action Against Bullying
- Reviewing the 6 week anti-bullying program
- Collecting and collating data for determining program effectiveness

 
Full Day Program Planning Workshop
Notes In this workshop, Educators will have the opportunity to work in teams planning the implementation of an anti-bullying program. This workshop follows the Full Day Staff Information Workshop.

At the end of this day, all staff will know the following:
 
- Dates for beginning and ending the formal 6 week anti-bullying classroom teaching program
- School-wide consequences for bullying
- Referral procedures
- Administration follow-up
- Garnering parent support through information evenings and newsletters
- Determining and setting school policy for dealing with bullying behaviours
- Excellent data collection methods and interpretation
- Bringing community businesses and extra-curricular program supports on board
- Measuring successes, planning for subsequent years
- Connecting with regional source schools
- Articulating expectations and teaching incoming students behavioral expectations

 
1/2 Day Workshop
Notes This three-hour workshop for Educators provides participants with an introduction to the issue of bullying.

Effective Record keeping
Notes In this 2-3 hour workshop, participants will learn how to set up classroom and school-wide systems for accurate and helpful record keeping. Existing computer programs and systems will need to be assessed in order to determine the best program for each system.
