Pink Day
Monday, 09 February 2009 00:00
Well, this time it might just happen.  Pink Day may actually become something more than a one day wonder in standing up and saying no to bullying.  You remember Pink Day?  Those two boys from Nova Scotia who heard about a much younger student who was teased and made to feel unwelcome and embarrassed because he was wearing pink shirt.  Those 2 boys went out and bought every pink shirt they could find at the discount store and the next day, the teasers were confronted with over 50 kids wearing pink.  Pink, the soft, gentle color, has gained a strength that deserves recognition.  Pink ribbons in support of a cure for breast cancer, now pink to say  NO to bullying.  Schools across Canada will see girls and boys, teenagers, men and women wearing pink on February 25 to say without words, we say no to bullying.  It is an extraordinary thing started by 2 ordinary boys.  Many schools and communities did it last year.  More will do it this year.  But I think we need to be more serious about wearing pink.  Wearing pink has got to mean that you are making a promise.   If you are not serious, don’t wear pink.

What does being serious look like?  It means that, not just for one day, but for all days, we say no to bullying.  What is bullying?

Is gossiping bullying?  Maybe.  Probably. Usually.

Is telling stories about someone else bullying? Probably.

Is intentionally embarrassing someone bullying?  Usually.

Is calling someone rude names bullying? Probably.

Is two boys or girls challenging each other to a fight bullying? Not, not usually.  It is bad play.

Is taunting someone weaker than you into a fight, bullying. Yes.  Most definitely.

When you do something to your younger or older brother or sister because you know it drives them nuts, and you do it over and over again.  Is that bullying? YES

Is sending nasty messages over the internet to someone else or about someone else bullying? Yes.  Kids have a hard time believing this.  They think it is normal.

Please wear pink on February 25 ONLY if you are prepared to do what you are committing to.  Be honest with yourself.  Wearing pink is not a one day glee club where we can all pat each other on the back and say we believe.  It is a making a statement about what you stand for, what you will stand against, and what you believe in.

PINK! WHY DO MALES FEEL SO INSECURE ABOUT THEMSELVES WHEN THEY WHERE PINK?
MEN THINK THAT PINK IS A GIRL'S COLOR, A SIGN OF WEAKNESS. BUT IT IS NOT. PINK IS A NICE SOOTHING COLOR. WHY DO PEOPLE ASSOCIATE THE COLOR OF CLOTHING THAT SOMEONE WHERES WITH THE TYPE OF PERSON THEY ARE? I AM A VERY LARGE MAN AND I LOVE WEARING PINK. THE GUYS AT WORK ARE ALWAYS GIVING ME A HARD TIME BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF THE SHIRTS I WEAR. I BELIEVE THAT ANYONE WHO HAS A PROBLEM WEARING PINK HAS A LOW SELF-ESTEEM OF THEMSELVES. PINK IS ONLY A COLOR. WOULD THE PEOPLE AT WORK RATHER SEE ME DRESSED IN FULL ARMY FATIGUES SO THAT I CAN SCARE THE MEEK AT HEART? LET'S JUSTFORGET ABOUT THE TYPE OF CLOTHING PEOPLE WEAR, THE TYPE OF COLORS THEY LIKE TO WEAR, AND JUST ACCEPT THAT JNOT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME LIKES OR DISLIKES.

Classic case of first step on a long journey
Yes indeed - all it takes is one person to say "Why don't we try this?" and the next thing you know, it becomes a national issue. Good on these guys!

Meanwhile, our story on Anti-Bullying Day shows that our beautiful province of B.C. is lagging behind when it comes to countering the problem. http://vancouver.24hrs.ca/News...6-sun.html

Thought you'd find it interesting!

Cheers

thats why i hangout with the older boys, because their nice to me.
but i found out they only wanted one thing, to take advantage of me.. seing as they saw i was going threw a rough patch.. i ended up doing.. things with them, because i couldn't lose them as my friends! or i'd have none. all my girlfriends hate me because they heard what i did with the guys, and i guess i'm the school slut now.
